• 7E Guest Artist - Theo Jansen
Theo is a Dutch artist and kinetic sculptor. He studied physics at the University of Delft in the Netherlands. He was involved in many projects that involved both art and technology. In a BMW televisions commercial, he says, “The walls between art and engineering exist only in our minds.”
Since 1990, he has been building StrandBeests (Dutch: strand=beach; beest=beast) constructed with piping, wood, wing-like sails, etc. They are wind walking creature-like structures that react to their environment.
